Job Description
The principle function is to assist in the long-term planning for development and growth of the community, the city area of impact, and the administration of City Code Title 10 and Comprehensive Plan. The position is primarily responsible to manage complex planning studies and review development applications and consultant proposals. Work with community partners on multi-jurisdictional programs such as natural resources planning, regional transportation planning, and others. Prepare and present ordinance amendment proposals to boards or commissions and the City Council. As well as administer the Development Impact Fee program and serve as the staff liaison to the board. Attendance at various after hour meetings is required. The position is responsible to mentor and evaluate the performance of the Planner positions and in the absence of the Planning and Zoning Development Manager this position may assume administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Planning or a related field; or any equivalent combination of experience, education and training that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the job.

Four years’ experience in comprehensive planning, community development, and/or zoning compliance is preferred. Must be available to work some evening and weekend hours as necessary, including attending some evening Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council meetings.

Must have the ability to communicate logically and clearly, both orally and in writing. Must have a strong attention to detail; ability to demonstrate politeness, empathy, and respect in dealing with citizens and/or City staff. Must be able to read and understand laws and regulations (City Code). Must have the ability to prioritize, organize, and perform work with minimal direction, and be able to work with frequent interruptions.
