Job Description
Under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Director, the Park Superintendent manages the city’s park development, maintenance, and operations to effectively provide safe open spaces, trails, park facilities and amenities to the citizens of Twin Falls as described in the city’s Strategic Plan and Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The individual will have extensive interaction with the Parks Director, City Engineer, public works department, code enforcement, public safety, building department and planning and zoning on all appropriate park expansion or improvement projects. Examples of day-to-day functions include maintaining current and up-to-date records on all city park properties, including mowing and irrigation schedules, spraying and maintenance schedules, and repairs. Manages community forestry program. Prepares bid documents for all construction projects, purchases and contracted services as well as prepares the department’s budget to include a multi-year forecast for the needs of the department. Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems. Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications to become and remain current on the principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.
The city is looking for an experienced leader who has a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Park Management, Turf Management, Water Resource Management, or other related fields. Five (5) years management experience of public parks or open space; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Knowledge of the following areas is required: arboriculture and irrigation practices, city code as it applies to public spaces, building and park requirements. Principals of park planning design and construction, park and pool operations, state and federal bidding and procurement requirements. Candidates must be able to make sound and reasonable decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and established procedures. Must be able to demonstrate strong communication skills, conflict resolution and consensus building.
