Job Description
: An employee in this position responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service and performs other administrative procedures to protect the health, safety, and “Quality of Life” issues of the community, protect animals and to promote the humane treatment of animals. A C.S.O. in this position is required to capture, trap, tranquilize, transport to the animal shelter, and dispatch severely wounded animals; as well as collect deceased domestic animals that pose a public health risk. In addition, this position may issue uniform citations and conduct investigations of animal neglect, vicious animals, and bite cases.

The C.S.O. works in the Code Enforcement Department and may aid with health, sanitation, weed
abatement and water conservation codes; perform community outreach, education, and enforcement tasks regarding animal welfare and animal control laws, including interviewing victims; taking, preparing, and processing crime reports, crime scene evidence and testifying in court as needed. In addition, the position may provide support to the patrol division by responding to and assisting with traffic incidents and traffic/crowd control situations; tagging vehicles; and other job-related duties as assigned. The primary duties of this position are performed in the field, subject to outside weather conditions and stressful, emotional situations.
Qualifications
Must be 19 years or older at the time of employment; have a high school diploma or G.E.D.; possess a valid driver's license; and have no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history. Due to the nature of the work, accuracy, attention to detail, and both verbal and written communication skills are necessary. Must have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interpret, apply and explain rules and regulations, interview, and work with a variety of individuals.
The applicant should possess an interest in or knowledge of general code enforcement operations. The position requires that the applicant be willing to work a varied work schedule, including days, swing shift, nights, or weekends. A thorough background investigation and drug screen are required.
